Making time for your spouse.

Jun 09, 2024

First off, let's acknowledge that life is busy. Between demanding jobs, household chores, and social commitments, finding time can feel impossible. Here is the pointed truth though, that is anything but a secret, it’s not about having time; it’s about making time. Prioritizing your spouse means intentionally setting aside moments to connect, even amidst a hectic schedule.

Start with small changes. Have a morning coffee together, free from distractions. Share a 10-minute check-in chat at the end of the day to discuss highs and lows. Plan regular date nights, whether it’s a fancy dinner out or a cozy movie night at home. These little rituals create opportunities for connection and intimacy.

A peek inside our routine: We send fun, loving, or just a hi, texts here and there thru the day. Since I'm away during the day Ron will sit down with me when I get home and we decompress together. And, date night, well that is our sacred night and we do not accept plans with anyone else, and I mean anyone, it's our night. It's a night we spend together doing whatever we're feeling on that night! We've recently added a new one to our list, Monday - Thursday, no TV shows. We work together on business stuff, read, talk, play games, listen to a podcast, ect. It has opened up a new level in our relationship!

The key to all of this, be fully present during these times. Put away the phones, turn off the TV, and focus on each other. Listen actively, share your thoughts and feelings, and show genuine interest in your spouse’s day. This presence and attentiveness reinforce that your partner is a priority in your life.

Remember, quality time isn’t about grand gestures; it’s about consistent, meaningful interactions. By making time for each other, you’re not only strengthening your bond but also building a resilient, loving marriage that can weather any storm.
