Becoming a better you

May 26, 2024

I read a lot of books, and if you've been following my writing for any amount of time you've heard me mention that. The reason I'm mentioning it again is because I'm hopeful it will pique your interest to pick up a book, or an audible, and try out one or two of the ones that have been mentioned (by myself of Ron).

I read for many reasons, sometimes it’s for entertainment, others it is to shut out the world and find some peace, and still other times it is for personal growth. Over the last several years I've become drawn more and more to books that help me, both in general as well as in my marriage. Some of the books are fantasy and others are silly fun romance novels that keep my imagination expanding. Others are books on neuroplasticity, cognitive distortion and plain old faulty thinking.

And we cannot forget the daily read, the original, manual to life, the Bible.

I've learned one thing that is universal throughout all of the genre's Ive read, people can have some stinkin' thinkin, with or without God. I've also, not only learned, but seen first hand, that with God overcoming that stinkin' thinkin' gets much easier and lasts a lot longer.

So, this weeks challenge is to find a new book to read, or listen too. This book should be something that encourages you to be a better you. There is no rule on how long you have to read it. You can read as fast or slow as you like, just read it to the end.

Here are a few of my recent/recommended reads: The Keeper of Stars, Buck Turner; The Deepest place, Curt Thompson; The Murmur of Bees, Sofia Segovia; Feeling Good Together, David Burns.

And, as mentioned with God overcoming that stinkin' thinkin' gets much easier and lasts a lot longer, so for bonus credit ;), read one Proverb a day (start with Prov 1:2)
